Orca app pre-alpha review
Hey there, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Well, I’ve been busying moving house and sorting out all the things that come with that. My mind just hasn’t had time to settle for me to focus on much else.
Alas, I’m here today with a quick one about a new upcoming app that I’ve stumbled across called Orca.
Orca is an investing app that claims to be ‘easy to use and transparent with fees’. They say it will be launching sometime in the second half of 2020 so it can’t be too long now, it’s currently in Alpha.
Unlike other finance apps, these guys are doing something a bit different with their launch.
Most similar services that I’ve seen, entice you in by giving early adopts a free low-value share or by bumping you up the waitlist to you get early access. Orca aren’t doing either of these… sort of. With Orca you join a waitlist and then you are given the opportunity to send out invites so that more people get on the app. Invites get you up the list so the more people sign up as a direct result of your invite, the higher up the waitlist you go. However, with Orca you join a waitlist and the top 100 people in the list all get at least £100 and the top 10 £200; pretty sweet. More details here.
As the service hasn’t launched yet, the app is pretty bare bones as it mainly serves as a waitlist tracker at the moment but I will quickly run through the app.
When you open the app you’re presented with your stats which lets you know your place in the list and tells you your referral code to share. To the right there’s “get points” which breaks down different ways you can earn points to boost your position in the queue. Further to the right there’s “more” which houses faqs, settings, etc but there’s not much options at it’s not launched yet. Going back to the far left we have “knowledge” which is a series of articles designed to educate beginners on investing. This is a smart feature that I really like, most apps or platforms just throw you in the deep and assume you can swim, I know Trading 212 has videos.
Up at the top we have access to a live chat and logout functions. I can say that the live chat support team are lightning fast at responding and helping out. I had trouble verifying my identity because the post code of my new house isn’t in a lot of databases so I couldn’t prove my address but the team we on it straight away. It’s early days but customer service 👌🏽
I’ve requested Alpha access to the app so I hope to be testing it out within the next couple of days. I’ll publish a follow up with my thoughts.
