It's not about you

It’s not about you, I’m sorry but it’s really not.

I see so much on social media these days with people complaining about lockdown restrictions and tiers feeling personally victimised and it’s really frustrating because it’s not about you. It’s about your neighbour, your friends, your grandparents, your loved ones, and their loved ones and so on. It’s about protecting the vulnerable, it’s about protecting society it’s about protecting civilisation as a whole.

It’s not about you.

I feel like in our culture we’re encouraged to be ourselves and so we develop a sense of self that is often conflated with a sense of selfishness which then manifests in this weird way were it’s like only “me and mine” matter but that’s not true others matter.

It’s not about you.

I feel like we need to get over this individualism if we are to compete on interplanetary level, we need to cooperate and harbour togetherness and compassion for each other we need to be united as humanity, it’s not about you, it’s about us.

In recent months, this selfishness has led and resulted in the deaths of people. COVID-19 isn’t a particularly deadly disease but selfishness is helping it be. You’re potentially aiding and a betting a murderer. Selfish behaviours are causing the need for lockdowns and restrictions which negatively impact the economy which in turn kill more people because more people can’t make ends meet and their quality of life for the diminish and ultimately results in an increased excess mortality rate.

Oh? But you’re fine you say and your friend is fine you say? But what if I told you that one is three positive cases are asymptomatic? Yeah that’s a lot of people out there on wittingly spreading this disease.

It’s not about you. It’s about us.

So before you think that meeting up with such n’ such and so n’ so to chat about nothing and feel “normal” is more important than someone else seeing their loved ones, think again because it’s not about you it’s about us.

Stay safe.
